The count down

Leaving for Australia in 12 days. A few days ago was the first time I realized how far away I was going and it kind of made me ponder on the endless possibilities. I think my idea with this blog, is to try and keep a blog about my experience from now on. Im not sure how this will work, but I hope it will help me with my writing skills.

Growing

Unpredictable, Crazy, Entertaining and Passionate are just a few words that describe who Riley Haupt is. Riley found a knack for music and performance at a very early age, starting with violin performances at the age of four. As he moved into fifth grade, he picked up percussion and found a natural feel for rhythm. He kept with the drums and started working on his singing and guitar skills as he moved through his High school years.

After High school, Riley moved to Chicago Illinois to attend Columbia College of Chicago. At this point Riley was involved with many musicals and singing groups where he found his love for acting and being in front of an audience. He studied Musical theatre at Columbia College of Chicago for one year and then decided to leave the windy city.

As Riley moved back to Manitowoc Wisconsin, he started focusing on business. Riley was titled as a representative for a telecommunication net-working business, which helped give him a wonderful taste of how business works and opened his eyes to an entrepreneur life style.

After taking one semester off of school, Riley realized that school was important and that college would be his next big project. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc where he got his associates degree in Arts and Science. As he attended the University, he and his business partner (Terry Stevenson) decided to come up with a new fun business idea in the city of Manitowoc and produced a talent competition.

Building this competition at the age of 19, Riley and his partner raised over $100,000 and made a show that blew all expectations called Lakeshore’s Rising Stars. Many people auditioned until the top ten contestants were found. Those contestants sang for nine shows, each week one getting eliminated. When the top five contestants were found, they battled for the grand prize of $10,000. The competition had two successful seasons in 2006 and 2007 with a two reunion shows added after. During the last reunion show, Riley moved to Milwaukee Wisconsin, to go back to school and get a bachelors degree.

Being a drummer, singer, actor, Guitarist, and producer; Riley had a hard time deciding what kind of a degree to go for. Riley loves kids, and felt that a good degree might be music education. After completing most of his teaching classes, he found he was able to graduate earlier if he got a Bachelors of Arts degree in Music, instead of the teaching certification. He then decided that teaching is a possibility in the future, but at this point in his life, he wanted to see the world and perform.

Now the journey continues while Riley leaves for Australia with his friend and musical partner Matthew O'grady on August 12^th 2011. The two of them will be performing as an acoustic duo for Carnival cruse line-P&O Australia (Jewel). One of Riley's main goals in life is to succeed. With God as his focus, he is excited to take and live this journey out! Stay tuned!
